| In 1908 the Eastern Suburbs Technical College was established with the first classes taught being carpentry, plumbing and blacksmithing. Then in 1913 the institution changed its name to Swinburne Technical College and in 1965 it affiliated with the Victoria Institute of Colleges. The College was now delivering tertiary education in technical, agricultural and commercial fields, as well as liberal arts and the humanities. Over the next few decades the College underwent more major changes and finally became the Swinburne University of Technology on 1 July 1992. |
