In August 1987 the Australian International Development Assistance Bureau (AIDAB) replaced the Australian Development Assistance Bureau (ADAB). The Bureau's main purpose was to manage the overseas aid programs undertaken by Australia and was controlled by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In 1995 the Bureau became AusAID.
