| Longerenong Agricultural College became Victoria's second agricultural education institute when it opened in 1889. It was forced to close from 1897 until 1905, due mainly to series of severe droughts which greatly reduced finances and student numbers. Now known as Longerenong College, the institution is a department of the Institute of Land and Food Resources at the University of Melbourne. The College is located near the rural town of Horsham, approximately 300 km from Melbourne. Situated on 1500 hectares of land, Longerenong specialises in intensive farming. |
