Altona Petrochemical Complex (c. 1961 - )

The Altona Petrochemical Complex was established in the early 1960s and consisted of seven companies. The first company to begin production at the complex was BF Goodrich Chemical Ltd, in May 1961. Other companies that established plants on the site during the 1960s were the Altona Petrochemical Company Ltd, Australian Synthetic Rubber Company Ltd, Union Carbide Australia Ltd, Dow Chemicals (Australia) Ltd, Hoechst Australia Ltd and BASF Australia Ltd. Over the years companies have merged, pulled out of the complex or established new plants there. The Complex is located 20km west of Melbourne.
