Australian Defence Scientific Service (ADSS) was established in the late 1940s. ADSS initially consisted of the Long Range Weapons Establishment and the Munitions Supply Laboratories. As a result of Defence restructuring the in 1974 the the Australian Defence Scientific Service is integrated into the newly formed Defence Science & Technology Organisation (DSTO).
