Online Sources
Function: Chemical Industries and Manufacturing Industry
Location: Victoria, Australia
Australian Lithofracteur Company (Krebs Patent) Ltd was established during the 1870s. The high demand for explosives brought about by the gold rush and the heavy duties placed on imported dynamite created a need for local manufacture. Manufacturing began at a site in Kororoit Creek, now Deer Park, which was then outside Melbourne's suburbs and at a safe distance from housing.
