The Australian Patents Office, now simply known as IP Australia, is the federal government agency responsible for granting rights in patents, trade marks and designs. IP Australia incorporates the Patent, Designs, Trade Marks and Plant Breeder’s Rights (PBR) Offices. It is a prescribed agency within the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (ITR) but operates independently and reports directly to the Minister.
