The Animal Genetics Section gained Divisional status in 1959, becoming the Division of Animal Genetics. The Divisions functions included research into the genetics and improvement of cattle, sheep and poultry through methods such as breeding and selection. In 1975 the Divisions of Animal Genetics and Animal Physiology merged to become the Division of Animal Production.
