CSIRO's Division of Telecommunications and Industrial Physics was established in September 1996. The Division was the result of the merger between the Divisions of Applied Physics and Radio Physics. From the Division's Web Site: "For most companies the cost of establishing and maintaining a major research centre is prohibitive. We offer an alternative by giving industry access to a world competitive research and development facility."

The Division is now called CSIRO Industrial Physics.
