The Division of Biotechnology was established in 1988, from the Divisions of Molecular Biology, Chemical and Wood Technology and the Division of Protein Chemistry. The work of the Division benefited pharmaceutical, chemical, agricultural and food industries in the use of biotechnology as well as cell biology. In 1989 the Division was replaced by the Division of Biomolecular Engineering.
