The Cooperative Research Centre for Southern Hemisphere Meteorology was established in July 1993 as a joint venture between Monash University, the Bureau of Meteorology, the CSIRO's Division of Atmospheric Research and Division of Telecommunications and Industrial Physics as well as Silicon Graphics (Australia) Pty Ltd. The Centre undertook research, along with graduate training in meteorological sciences, and was located at Monash University's Clayton campus.
