Lucas Industries Australia Ltd was established during the 1950s and was a manufacturer of rubber and plastic components. Between 1962 and 1967 it was the first to develop a polypropylene battery container and lid. Lucas Industries Australia Ltd expanded over the years and moved into the solar and aviation industry where it was a co-producer of the Royal Australian Air Force's Hornet planes. The company had evolved into a global automotive and industrial component manufacturer. At some stage the company was renamed TRW Aeronautical Systems Australia Limited.
