Northern Territory Electricity Commission (1978 - )

The Northern Territory Electricity Commission was established in 1978 when the Territory achieved self-governance. It took over the responsibility for all power generation and distribution throughout the region. This included the running of the Yulara Power Station in Central Australia. In 1987 the Power and Water Authority (PAWA) was created when the Northern Territory Electricity Commission merged with the Northern Territory Water Authority.
