| In the early 1840s, Peter Russell departed from the business he had set up with his brothers, Russell Bros., and established the Sydney Foundry and Engineering Works. In 1855, after Russell Bros. was wound up, Peter was joined by two of his brothers and the partnership of P. N Russell and Company was established. This engineering and foundry business prospered for twenty years, but unresolved disputes with workers over pay forced the permanent closure of the engineering works in June 1875. |
