Founded in 1954 as the Zinc Alloy Die Casters Association of Australia, the Diecasting Institute of Australia was established in 1972. Membership to the Institute was available only to companies. In 1982 DIA merged with the Society of Die Casting Engineers of Australia, forming the Australian Die Casting Association.
