The Soil Conservation Authority was constituted in 1950, replacing the Land Conservation Authority, and was a body corporate under the Soil Conservation and Land Utilisation Act 1949 (1958). It worked closely with landholders and governmental authorities, advising them on land uses that matched land capabilities. With the 1983 amalgamation of Ministries, the Authority became part of the Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands.
