In 1909, with the support of the New South Wales government, the University of Sydney established a Veterinary School and appointed J.D. Stewart as Director and Professor. The School was upgraded to a Faculty in 1920. Veterinary education had previously been offered at the Sydney Technical College from the 1880s.
