The Surveillance Research Laboratory was established in December 1987 after a restructuring of the DSTO laboratories. The Laboratory consisted of sections of the former Electronics Research Laboratory and Advanced Engineering Laboratory. In 1994 the Laboratory merged with the Electronics Research Laboratory to form the Electronics and Surveillance Research Laboratory.
