| The University of Melbourne's Computation Laboratory was established in 1955, when CSIRO transferred their automatic computer to the University. The CSIRAC machine was Australia's first electronic computer and one of the first in the world. The Computation Laboratory was renamed the Department of Computation in 1964. |
