The Australian National University (ANU) was established in 1946 by an Act of Parliament. In 1960 ANU amalgamated with the Canberra University College and broadened its range of activities, adding undergraduate teaching. Another amalgamation took place in 1992, with the Canberra Institute of the Arts joining ANU. The University is located on a 150-hectare campus close to the centre of Canberra.
