Established in July 1993, the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for New Technologies for Power Generation from Low-Rank Coal was replaced by the CRC for Clean Power from Lignite in July 1999. The CRC conducted research into the properties and characteristics of low-rank coals, ash and deposit formation and combustion and gasification, as well as several other areas.
