The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Environment was previously known as the Antarctic CRC. The CRC conducted research in oceanography, glaciology, polar atmospheric physics, palaeo-reconstruction, microbiology, politics, law, international relations and remote sensing. In about 1997 the CRC became the CRC for Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.
