The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for the Sustainable Development of Tropical Savannas was established in July 1995. Research areas covered by the CRC include the environmentak determinants of savanna form and function and the impacts of savanna use of floral and faunal ecology. In July 2001 the CRC was replaced by the CRC for Tropical Savanna Management.
