| Function: Conservation or Environment and Industrial or Scientific Research | ||
| Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia | ||
| Established in July 1999, the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Biological Control of Pest Animals took the place of the CRC for Biological Control of Vertebrate Pest Populations. Research of the CRC focuses on reducing both the environmental and economic impact of introduced pest animals. From their Web site, June 2002: "The Centre aims to develop new biological control agents for three of Australia's most damaging pest animals - the European rabbit, European red fox and the introduced house mouse. These agents will be cost effective, environmentally friendly, will reduce the impact of the pest to acceptable levels, be more humane and retain their effectiveness over time." In 2004 the work carried out by this CRC was taken over by the Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre. |
