Function: Medical Research
Location: Richmond, Victoria, Australia
The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Discovery of Genes for Common Human Diseases or Gene CRC was established in July 1997. Research areas covered by the CRC included human genetics, molecular biology, statistical genetics, genotyping, positional cloning, therapeutics and diagnostics. The Gene CRC ceased activities in June 2004. Many of its research and education activities have continued with the above participating organisations, or through collaborations with other institutes.

From their Web site, June 2002: "The Gene CRC utilises several of Australia's strategic genetic resources to identify disease susceptibility genes in a range of areas, including cancer, metabolic disorders, immunological disorders, women's health and public health. Furthermore, the Gene CRC provides a platform for a high level of debate in the community regarding human genetics."
