Baker Medical Research Institute (1926 - )

The Baker Medical Research Institute can trace its history back to 1926, when qualified pharmacist Thomas Baker made a large donation to the Alfred Hospital to build a biochemistry laboratory. In 1975 the Institute began to focus solely on cardiovascular research. The Institute has affiliations with the Alfred Hospital and Monash University.

From their Web site, June 2002: "The Baker Medical Research Institute is well known internationally for its cardiovascular studies. More than 220 staff and students located within the Institute and at the Alfred Baker Medical Unit, carry out a broad-based research program."
