Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists was formed in May 1977, when it was granted the prefix 'Royal'. The College had been known as the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists since 1963 and the Australian Association of Psychiatrists since 1946. The College is responsible for training, examining and awarding qualifications in the medical specialty of psychiatry.
