| The Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens can trace their history back to 1862, when the Melbourne Zoological Gardens were established at the Royal Park site in 1862. The Zoo was granted royal charter in 1977. In 2002 the Zoo houses over 350 species and is situated on a 55 acre site. |
