Established in 1872, the Zoological and Acclimatisation Society of Victoria succeeded the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria. The new Society continued the managent of the Melbourne Zoological Gardens. In 1910 the Society was granted royal charter, becoming the Royal Zoological and Acclimatisation Society of Victoria.
