Queen Victoria Hospital (1899 - 1977)

Started in the 1890s as the Victoria Hospital, the Queen Victoria Hospital opened in Little Lonsdale Street with its new name in 1899. It was originally a hospital run by women for women and children, with the first male patient being admitted in 1963. The hospital moved to larger premises in Lonsdale Street in 1946. In 1977 the amalgamation of several hospitals resulted in the formation of the Queen Victoria Medical Centre.
