The Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) was created after a consortium of the State fire and land management agencies, eight universities, CSIRO, federal government agencies and New Zealand fire and forest research agencies received a seven year CRC grant. "The Centre’s objectives can be summarised as providing research which enhances the management of the bushfire risk to the community in an economically and ecologically sustainable way. …. Research program(s) cover a range of topics including fire behaviour and suppression, fire in the landscape, community understanding, building protection, volunteerism and bushfire arson."
