The Solid State Division of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute was established as the Solid State Chemistry Division in 1967 during the 39th ANZAAS Congress. The first Full Council Meeting was held on 8th March of that year where approval for the Division was given. In around 1968 the word 'Chemistry' was dropped from the division's title..
