The mission of La Trobe University is to be an internationally-recognised leader in tertiary education and professional training, and in pursuance of this, to promote the scholarly acquisition, transmission, application and preservation of knowledge through teaching and research of the highest international standards, and to provide a learning environment in which intellectual freedom is protected and intellectual rigour fostered.
The main campus in metropolitan Melbourne is set in beautiful parkland at Bundoora. A network of regional campuses extends across the State of Victoria from Mildura through Bendigo, Shepparton, Beechworth and Albury-Wodonga to Mt Buller.
The University has a powerful research profile. In recognition of this an Institute for Advanced Study has been established on the main campus. The University also has many other significant research centres notably in the fields of Physical Sciences and Waste Management.
The University also has a highly successful Research and Development Park including a Technology Enterprise Centre which nurtures ëstart-upí technology companies. Links with international companies on the Park are growing steadily and recently a collaborative agreement was signed with the prestigious Caohejing Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai. At the local level, the Victorian Government Environment Protection Authority will transfer to the Park in the year 2000.
