Series 1 Honorary Secretaries' Files

The position of Honorary Secretary was created with responsibility for professional records, such as reports, conference records, membership records, CVs, correspondence from members or related societies and organisations, and so on.

Series 1 contains general files associated with the Honorary Secretary, including agendas, council and executive minutes, rules for the Australian Society for Immunology Incorporated (ASI Inc.), and details of the association between ASI Inc. and the journal Immunology and Cell Biology.

Series 2 Secretariat Files

The Secretariat was initiated in 1984 to deal with administrative duties related to the day to day operation of the Australian Society for Immunology, including accounts and finances, general correspondence and so on.

This series contains records of the Secretariat, including accounts, receipt and cheque books, deposit slips and banking information, administrative papers arising from conferences and meetings, membership application and renewal forms, voting papers, general correspondence, reports, papers from related societies, and papers related to the preparation of the Society's Membership Directory.

Some of the items included in this Series pre-date the formation of the Secretariat.

Series 3 Newsletters

Series 3 contains newsletters produced for members of the Australian Society for Immunology, later the Australian Society for Immunology Incorporated, subsequently the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated.

The newsletters include information about the Society and scientific/immunological news relevant to members, minutes of annual meetings and council meetings, book reviews, information on journals, notices regarding forthcoming meetings and conferences, brief details of current scientific work in or related to immunology, information regarding membership and renewals, etc.

Eight Newsletters from 1993 can also be found in Series 2, Secretariat Files (ASID0020, "ASI Newsletters - Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated").

Series 4 Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy Files

The Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) was formed in 1991, when the Australian College of Allergy amalgamated with the Clinical Immunology Group (CIG). In the same year, ASCIA became an Associate Member of the Australian Society for Immunology Incorporated (ASI Inc.).

This series includes correspondence, agendas, minutes and records of teleconferences from around the time ASCIA and ASI Inc. became affiliated (1991-1992).

Series 5 Membership Files

Contains membership lists and directories. Also includes proposals for Life Membership of the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated (ASI Inc.), a curriculum vitae for Life Member William James Halliday, and two general brochures about the Society and its rules.

Series 6 Honorary Secretaries' General Correspondence

Includes correspondence sent to Honorary Secretaries of the Australian Society for Immunology (later the Australian Society for Immunology Incorporated). Also includes photocopies of outgoing correspondence from the Honorary Secretary, and some newsletters, minutes and agendas from related organisations.

The majority of correspondence in this Series dates from the period Dr. Christina Cheers was Honorary Secretary (1987-1989). Also included is some correspondence from Dr. Cheers' predecessor Bob Ashman (1983-1986), and her successor Dr. Hilary Warren (1990-1992).

Includes correspondence between the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated (previously the Australian Society for Immunology Incorporated) and the following organisations:

Australian Science and Technology Council (ASTEC)

Series 8 Annual Meetings

The Australian Society of Immunologists held its first annual meeting in December 1971. Subseqently, the Australian Society for Immunology, Australian Society for Immunology Incorporated, and Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated continued to hold meetings annually, generally in the first half of December. The meetings combined the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting with an Annual General Meeting, and were held primarily in Australian State capitals, and later in New Zealand.

Series 8 includes bound volumes of programmes and abstracts from these annual meetings, and collected minutes and related paperwork from Annual General Meetings and Council Meetings. Also included are a small number of related accounts, reports and other papers.

Series 9 Papers of State Branches

Series 9 contains papers from State branches of the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated, including papers from the Queensland Branch, the Victorian branch (known as the Immunology Group of Victoria, or IgV), and the New South Wales Group.

Series 10 1969 Symposium - Aspects of Antibody Formation and Unresponsiveness

Abstracts from a Symposium titled "Aspects of Antibody Formation and Unresponsiveness". The symposium was held under the name "The Australian Society of Immunologists" on 8 December 1969, prior to the formal establishment of the Society (which occurred in 1970).

Series 11 Paperwork and Correspondence from Dr. Roland Scollay

Series 11 contains documents from Dr. Roland Scollay, Vice President of the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated (ASI Inc.) in 1992, President from 1993 to 1994, and Past President in 1995.

The series includes agendas and minutes (December 1990 - December 1992, 1993); working correspondence (1992-95); and correspondence with Blackwell Science relating to the journal Immunology and Cell Biology.

Series 12 Immunology and Cell Biology

Volumes of Immunology and Cell Biology, the official journal of the Australian Society for Immunology Incorporated, later the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated. Published six times a year by Blackwell Scientific Publications, later Blackwell Science Asia.

Eight volumes of Immunology and Cell Biology are also contained in Series 2 of this collection (see ASIA0071, "Immunology and Cell Biology - Volume 70, Part 1, February 1992 to Volume 71, Part 2, April 1993", Series 2, Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated Collection, MS 13662, State Library of Victoria, Australia).

Series 13 Ephemera
