Born: 31 August 1906  Carlton, Victoria, Australia.  Died: 2 May 1986.

Hills was Lecturer in Geology 1932-1944, Professor of Geology and Mineralogy 1944-1962, Dean of Science 1947-48, Research Professor (Personal Chair, Research in Geology) 1963, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor 1962-1971, at the University of Melbourne. He retired in 1971. His interests were wide ranging and included fossil fishes, physiography, mineralogy and petrology, structure, tectonics and morphotectonics, and economic geology.
