Matthaei, Ernst Artur Franz (1904 - 1966)

Microscopist and Optical technician
Born: 1904  Germany.  Died: 1966.

Matthaei was a technical agent for the Zeiss organisation in Melbourne from 1929 and in 1937 started his own business. He took a technical post at the University of Melbourne, where in 1942 he joined the Optical Munitions Laboratory and was later a lecturer. His research was in the area of fluorescence microscopy.

Assistant, University of Jena, Zeiss organisation, Germany, technical agent, Zeiss organisation, Melbourne 1929-37, optical and photographic business, Melbourne1937-42, optical munitions laboratory, Botany Department, University of Melbourne 1942-ca 45, in turn officer-in-charge, Faculty workshops and Microscopy Laboratory and lecturer in microscopy.
