Thomson, Donald Fergusson (1901 - 1970)

OBE, PhD (Camb), DSc, DipAnthrop (Camb & Syd)
 
Born: 26 June 1901  Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.  Died: May 1970.

Thomson studied botany and zoology at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 1925. He then attended the University of Sydney where in 1929 he became the first student to be awarded a Diploma in Anthropology from the new Department of Anthropology. He was on the staff of the University of Melbourne from 1932 until his death in 1970. In 1962, Professor Thomson was appointed to a personal chair of anthropology.
