Description

This series consists of radio scripts, draft articles and stories, correspondence, newspaper clippings and loose notes that mostly relate to J.C. Le Souëf's professional life. The series also includes transcripts from a children’s session on 3LO which was written and presented by J.C. Le Souëf whilst working for the Australian Broadcast Commission from 1932 to 1934. The talk show was entitled "Zoo Talk" where Le Souëf told children facts and stories about animals and birds, and informed the children about the Melbourne Zoo. Also within this series, there are a number of draft articles and stories by J.C. Le Souëf, mostly about animals and birds, and natural history.

There are a number of illustrations taken from Sketch - "Hypaethral" by H.J. Gunn, 22 October 1930 - "Water Lilies" by L. Cable, 10 September 1930 - "Lady Ashley and Mrs Beck" by O. Snell, 10 September 1930; "A Fantasy by 'Fish'", The Tatler,29 November 1916; "Portrait of Lady Louis Mountbatten", The Tatler, 24 December 1928. There are letters to J.C. Le Souëf from R.E. Downes regarding Le Souëf's mother's property, June 1943; and Robertson and Mullens Ltd regarding publishing his work aboard. Also includes notes on Lantern Slides of the Zoological Gardens in Melbourne and notes of Dune Sand Stone (possibly a series of photographs). A copy of the St Kilda News, 20 November 1931, pp. 1-2; an article from J.C. Williamson Ltd Magazine titled "Castles in the Air that Come True" regarding Rowena Ronald; and a copy of the prospectus for Le Souëf's Fauna Park Ltd December 1934.

There are a number of loose newspaper clippings on various topics and subject matter, including: Aborigines, Richard Fitcher, Dr M. Mead, scientific expeditions, storm rage in Antarctic, tiger attack, the lion, elephant at the zoo, shark attack, grasshopper control, arrivals at the zoo, snake park at Port Elizabeth and Australian animals to the United States of America. Pamphlets for the Youth Hostel Association are also included within the file.
