Description	This series contains notebooks and loose notes detailing both W.H.D Le Souëf's and J.C. Le Souëf’s collecting trips around different parts of the world. W.H.D Le Souëf's journal documents a trip taken in 1881 to 1882 to Calcutta and Singapore whilst he was director of the Melbourne Zoo. J.C. Le Souëf also traveled extensively throughout Australia in pursuit of different types of insects and moths. Credited with discovering on Mt William in the Grampians the species Hesperilla Crypsargyra or Mountain Skipper and in 1980 Cecil found and described another species in the Darwin region. In later years his main entomological activity was a study of the lycaenid genus Ogyris, of which he reared many specimens from remote parts of Queensland and New South Wales. J.C. Le Souëf's journals documents social as well as collecting trips, although they mainly detail his collecting trip for specimens for his entomological work and studies.

	Journal of J.C. Le Souëf's travels. These were generally collecting trips for specimens relating to his entomology work, studies and interest in natural history and science. The journal entries were maintained consistently. 	Journal of J.C. Le Souëf's travels documenting his social travel and collecting trips for specimens relating to his entomology work and studies and interest in natural history and science. The journal entries were maintained consistently. Located at the back of every journal is an index that lists particular events, subjects or names which occur within the journal and the corresponding page number. 	One leather bound notebook with entries describing a sea voyage taken by W.H.D. Le Souëf. The notebook documents the journey from Melbourne to Calcutta and back to Melbourne on board SS Rohilla; from Melbourne to Sydney on board SS Ly-ee-moon; Sydney to Brisbane on board SS Alexendra; Brisbane to Batavia on board SS Compta; Batavia to Singapore on board SS Jap-ara; Singapore to Batavia on board SS Sindoro, and Batavia to Brisbane on the SS Dorinda. The entries are generally consistent from December 1881 to August 1882.
