Correspondence to and from Dr Jan Sapp concerning the Briggs Affair.

The correspondence in this series includes letters from Deakin University about Dr Sapp's Freedom of Information (FOI) application, and letters and memos from Dr T. D. Stokes from the Department of Science and Technology Studies at the University of Wollongong about the progress of a proposed book entitled "Fabricating Facts: Gross Scientific Misconduct", plus a copy of an article that appeared in Search in March 1989 by Dr Stokes.

Letter to Dr. Jan Sapp from Professor Fred Jevons from Murdoch University dated 20 May 1988;

Carbon copy of letter to Russell Elliott of Deakin University from Jan Sapp dated 31 May 1988 stating preference for photocopies of the documents;

Letter to Dr. Jan Sapp from Mr Russell H. Elliott, University Secretary of Deakin University, dated 24 May 1988 granting substantial access to documents associated with the Briggs affair;

Letter to Dr. Jan Sapp from Mr Daniel Dwyer, Legal Officer of Deakin University, dated 6 July 1988 requesting deposit as per letter of 24 May;

Receipt from Deakin University for the sum of $25.00 being for FOI Deposit, dated 16 August;

Letter to Dr. Jan Sapp from Mr Daniel Dwyer, University Solicitor, dated 16 August 1988 enclosing receipt and advising that the request would be finalised within the next week;

Letter to Dr Jan Sapp from Mr Daniel Dwyer, University Solicitor, dated 24 October 1988 sent with the first part of the request, together with a request for patience because of the considerable number of documents;

Seven-page letter to Dr. J. Sapp from Mr R.H. Elliott, University Secretary, Deakin University dated 28 November 1988 about Dr. Sapp's request for access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act, 1982 in regards to the Briggs affair. This lists the documents made available and gives reasons for denial of access to other documents;

Letter to Dr. Jan Sapp from Dr. T.D. Stokes, Department of Science and Technology Studies, University of Wollongong, dated 19 December 1988 returning part B of the Deakin Briggs papers;

Memo to Jan Sapp from Terry Stokes dated 27 January 1989 about the Ramsay Report. Attached was the fax copy of the Ramsay report;

Letter to Dr. Jan Sapp from Dr. T.D. Stokes, Department of Science and Technology Studies, University of Wollongong, dated 7 April 1989 enclosing a prospectus for the Briggs book being sent to McPhee-Gribble. Attached is a six-page prospectus for a book whose working title is "Fabricating Facts: Gross Scientific Misconduct" with Dr. T.D. Stokes as editor. With compliments slip from Terry Stokes (undated) attached to an article called "The Briggs Enquiry" which appeared in Search, Vol. 20, No. 2 Mar-Apr, 1989 by Terry Stokes. Also part of a short article entitled "Short-changing the Audit" by Norman Swan concerning the Briggs affair (by default).
