9 - Scollay, Dr. Roland

Details

In 1992, while working at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Victoria, Dr. Roland Scollay was appointed Vice President of the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated (ASI Inc.), working under President Geoff Shellam.

In 1993, Dr. Scollay began his two year term as President of ASI Inc., following which he held the formal title of Past President for one year (in 1995).

Dr. Scollay's successor as President, Anne Kelso, writes in her first President's Report that Dr. Scollay continued the work of his predecessor Geoff Shellam: "in particular, the development of regional branches as foci for local meetings, and the international visiting speaker's programme, [which] now play almost as important a role as the Annual Scientific Meeting in promoting immunological interactions".

Dr. Harry A. Ward, Honorary Archivist of the Society from 1993 to 1997, received papers from Dr. Scollay dating from Dr. Scollay's time as Vice President, President, and Past President of ASI Inc. Dr. Ward in turn donated these to the ASI Inc. archives in 2000.
