For preservation reasons, the papers in this inventory item have been removed from the folder in which they were originally housed.

Etching depicts an old building amid roof-lines and an overhanging tree. The artist's signature is difficult to read, and may read Grant Most.

The caption for this etching reads 'It was at the Cornwall Hotel, Launceston, that the meeting at which it was decided to colonise Port Philip, was held. Fawkner left shortly after and founded the settlement from which Melbourne has grown. This is part of the original building, said to be 111 years old'. This caption is extant in Inventory Item PERR00903, which is Part 2 of this file, and which is also listed in this series.

It appears that Nancye Kent Perry may have received this artwork as a school prize when she was a student at Abbotsleigh School. A school prize, largely illegible due to the paper having deteriorated, was originally housed in the sleeve attached to the reverse of this artwork. This award is extant in Inventory Item PERR00903, which is Part 2 of this file, and which is also listed in this series.

This inventory item contains two records originally enclosed in the sleeve attached to the reverse of the framed etching entitled 'The Birthplace of Melbourne - Cornwall Hotel, Launceston - 6/50'.

Details of these two records are as follows.

- Caption that reads 'It was at the Cornwall Hotel, Launceston, that the meeting at which it was decided to colonise Port Philip, was held. Fawkner left shortly after and founded the settlement from which Melbourne has grown. This is part of the original building, said to be 111 years old'. Small handwritten note, cursive script;
- School prize issued by Abbotsleigh Anglican school for girls. Due to deterioration of the paper, most of the words on this prize are illegible. It looks to have been awarded to Nancye Kent Perry. Paper certificate, pasted onto board.

The framed etching referred to is extant in Inventory Item PERR00902, which is Part 1 of this file, and is also listed in this series.
