Index

Transferring the existing index from the printed edition to the online edition has been one of the most challenging, yet rewarding, aspects of the project.

As the online version has different page numbers to the print edition, the index has had to be adjusted so that it references the paragraphs, rather than the page, to which the term applies. At this stage the process has been worked through for the 'entity' indexing terms - i.e. people and organisations.

For an 'entity' indexing term, clicking on the page reference will link you to the particular paragraph to which the term applies. For example -

Custance, J. D. 21, 56, 603
  • clicking on 21 will take you to page 021 paragraph 67 (021.html#67)

For terms where this process has not yet occurred, clicking on the page reference link will take you to the top of the page to which the term applies. We will be progressively working through the other types of indexing terms - places, 'things' and concepts - to link directly to paragraphs.

The index terms reflecting people and organisations have also been linked, where possible, to their Bright Sparcs and Australian Science at Work pages. For example -

Custance, J. D. 21, 56, 603

We have also produced a Bright Sparcs Index and Australian Science at Work Index drawing date and occupation/function information from these domains.
