Ampt, Gustav Adolph (1886 - 1953)

Born: 19 July 1886  Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia.  Died: 4 May 1953.

Ampt was a demonstrator, lecturer and senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, University of Melbourne 1919-51. Earlier he was a chemist with the Commonwealth Department of Defence 1908-18.


Career Highlights

Born 19 July 1886. Died 4 May 1953. Educated University of Melbourne (BSc 1907). State Explosives Laboratory, Defence Department 1908-11, Chemical Advisers Laboratory, Defence Department 1911-18, Demonstrator, Department of Chemistry, University of Melbourne 1919-21, Senior Demonstrator 1921-26, Lecturer 1927-36, Senior Lecturer 1936-50. Part-time instructor, Chemistry Department, Working Men's College (Later Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) 1908-10. F.S. Grimwade Prize for applied chemistry ca 1919. President, Society of Chemical Industry of Victoria 1933-34, superintendent of the public examinations in Melbourne 1933-47.
