Bage, Anna Frederika (1883 - 1970)

Born: 11 April 1883  Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.  Died: 23 October 1970.

Bage was a junior demonstrator in biology, University of Melbourne 1907-09 and later a senior demonstrator. She was lecturer in charge of biology at the University of Queensland from 1913 and Principal of the Women's College 1914-46.


Career Highlights

Born 11 April 1883. Died 23 October 1970. OBE 1941. Educated University of Melbourne (BSc 1904, MSc 1906). McBain Research Scholarship, University of Melbourne 1907, Victorian Government Research Scholarship 1908, King's College London research studentship 1910-11, junior demonstrator in biology, University of Melbourne 1906-09, senior demonstrator 1912, lecturer in biology, University of Queensland 1913, principal of Women's College 1914-46. President, Field Naturalists' Club 1915, president, Lyceum Club, Brisbane 1922-23, president, Queensland Women's Hockey Association 1925-3 and of several women's groups. Commemorated at the Women's College by a portrait by William Dargie and by the Freda Bage room and in the University of Queensland by a grotesque depicting her in characteristic pose behind the wheel of a car.
