Series 1 Personal - Biographical 1913-1988

Biographical and autobiographical information and articles, including curriculum vitae and other major documents. Includes correspondence, publications, photographs and other material relating to ESH's education, war service, awards and scholarships, personal library, and personal papers (particularly those relating to the Relief Model of Australia), as well as to his involvement with institutions and organizations including: Melbourne University; Australian Academy of Science; Geological Society of London; Royal Society of Victoria; Royal Society of London; and Geological Society of Australia.

Series 2 E.S. Hills Reprint Collection 1929-1981

A variety of sketchbooks, notebooks and notepads containing field notes, sketches, and journal entries made on field trips in Australia, as well as notes, addresses and appointments recorded on overseas trips.

Series 18 Geological Photographs 1926-1985

Photographs taken by ESH throughout Australia, particularly in Victoria, organized by region and negative number. Victorian regions include: South Central; Eastern Highlands; Coastline; Port Phillip and Westernport District; Western Highlands; Otways and Western District Plains; Western Victoria; Murray Basin Plains; Gippsland. Some are mounted in loose-leaf albums together with sketches and notes, others are in bound albums. Most are numbered according to the H/P negative index. Includes some overseas photographs.

Series 19 Geological Photographs - Negatives and Indexes 1920s-1980s

Catalogues, lists and indexes giving details of many of ESH's geological photographs, including H/P, 35mm and 1/4 plate negatives, as well as lantern slides. Also includes many negatives in a variety of formats, organized by subject or format, such as: England 1929-1931; Deformed Graptolites, Panoramas; Morphotectonics; Relief model of Australia; Thin bedding and lamination; Structural geology and physiography; 2.25" square negatives; H/P negatives, Folding, bedding and cleavage; 1/4 plate glass negatives.
