Blackwood, Margaret (1909 - 1986)

Born: 26 April 1909.  Died: 1986.

After World War II Blackwood was Lecturer in Botany and Dean of Women at the Mildura Branch of the University of Melbourne. She was at Cambridge 1948-50 before returning to Melbourne where she was a Senior Lecturer until her retirement in 1975.

Born 26 April 1909. Died 1986. MBE, DBE 1981. Educated University of Melbourne (MSc) and Cambridge (PhD). Caroline Kay Research Scholar in Plant Cytology and Genetics 1939-41; WAAF 1941-46, rising to Wing Officer; lecturer in botany and Dean of Women, Mildura Branch, University of Melbourne 1946-48; Newnham College, Cambridge 1948-50; senior lecturer, University of Melbourne 1951-75; member of University Council 1975-83, Deputy Vice-chancellor 1981-83. Founder Fellow, Janet Clarke Hall, University of Melbourne; Australian and New Zealand Chairman, Soroptimist International Association 1957-58.
