RAAF ESCAPE PARTY—TIMOR FEBRUARY 1942

The following are details of the No. 2 Squadron RAAF Party which remained in Timor after its occupation by the Japanese and the survivors who were evacuated to Australia by the US Submarine Sea Raven on 17 April 1942:

NOTE
FLTLT Cook and PLTOFF Leithhead were Pilot and Second Pilot respectively of a No. 13 Squadron Hudson aircraft shot down during a raid on Koepang on 13 April 1942. Following their survival from this incident they joined up with FLTLT Rofe and No. 2 Squadron Party and were evacuated to Australia with it on 17 April 1942. PLTOFF Leithhead later lost his life whilst serving with No. 13 Squadron.

* FLGOFF Thompson, CPL Andrews, ACl Graham and PTE C.Clements died whilst the party remained in Timor.

All other RAAF personnel and LT Bridge RANVR were evacuated to Australia by the USS Sea Raven on 17 April 1942.
